The Nkoma Christian Youth Association is an association that was formed in response to the need to help people who are suffering due ongoing warfare in Uganda.

There is escalating problem of street children in Uganda due to the conditions brought on by war.  We believe that this will turn out to be a global threat, and we are therefore looking for ways of eliminating youth from the streets.  Street children live a very wild life and eventually resort to use of drugs such as opium, marijuana, and even aviation fuel and petrol to mention but a few.

This abuse has a mental effect on our future generations.

We must fight child prostitution together with child sexual abuse to combat the rapidly spreading killer disease of Aids.

The Association is trying to take care of basic needs, but we also counsel those who have already fallen victims of circumstance and try to transform their minds in order that Society can benefit from them. We don’t want them to feel discriminated against or to feel they are in there own world separate from ours.

We try to reform those who have already fallen victims of prostitution and are suffering from the side effects such as H.I.V/Aids. We need to counsel them and provide health needs for them.

“The youth are the future generation and if we lose them who will be the future generation?”

Nkoma Christian Youth Association provides the basic needs for the displaced people, orphans, street children and HIV/ AIDS victims. The Basic needs include: - Food, water, health and shelter/ good accommodation facilities.

Water is a very big problem because in Uganda any good purified tap water is paid for in order to get it, the displaced families are not employed, they don’t have money to buy water and end up drinking dirty water which leads to cause of dysentery, typhoid and cholera.

Health is very poor, diseases such as malaria caused as a result of mosquito bites attack families and the displaced cannot afford a mosquito net.

The organization has come up with several methods to produce food but it cannot meet the capacity of the population, and now families have one meal a day of which is not nutritious which has led to malnutrition in the young ones: the young ones are suffering from Kwashiorkor and marasmus.

Accommodation is really very poor because we have constructed temporary grass roofed houses which are very weak in case of heavy rain and wind the houses are washed away and in most cases families end up dying in the houses.

Nobody can afford a mattress and we have to provide sacks made out of sisal, and for those who can come tot own, they collect paper boxes that they use as mattresses and sacks become blankets. Due to baby urinating on the beddings in the house mopping becomes a problem and that has led to invasion body parasites such as bedbugs, hair lice and jiggers, which affect human life. 5 children in a family share that who is lucky, one blanket.

We have also come up to fight child prostitution by sensitizing the dangers of child prostitution such as early pregnancies, dangers of HIV/ AIDS diseases that will be another way to sensitize the young ones about HIV/ AIDS.

We go further and sensitize the general public about the dangers of HIV and AIDS. AIDS being a threat problem in Uganda and Africa as a continent, we have to devise means of fighting it.

And we feel for those who are already infected with the diseases, we need to provide cheaper anti-viral drugs to extend their lives for them to accomplish their plans.

The organisation provides basic education to the community, there the government of Uganda has given us an upper hand by providing free education to primary level but the problems come in at secondary and tertiary level.

The government doesn’t provide scholastic materials for the students, to provide scholastic materials and pay fees for a few of those who succeed to go to secondary schools. But most of them drop out after primary level due to financial status.

Help us help ourselves by buying our items made by the association and doing general e-shopping here-  Massa Charles Frank.  Chairman of the Nkoma Christian Youth Association.

There is an urgent need for basics such as shelter, medicine, food, clothing, but the government says that it is too busy fighting the rebels.  The attacks of the Lord's Resistance Army (L.R.A) and the People's Redemption Army have caused huge numbers of people to become displaced.   [See About Us, for more information.]

The association has over 300,000 displaced people who are in need of basic survival needs.  [See Our Needs].

The people themselves have come together to form this organization, so we can help the children and appeal to the International community to help. Our condition has become a threat to the entire community and the country at large, therefore forcing us to send out an alarm to the international community to come to support us by buying our goods made by hands so that we can live a better life. Together let us fight poverty as our mission is “Fighting Poverty Among The Poor”

The H.I.V infection rate is very high, and we have also been hit by Poverty and unemployment, which need immediate attention.

Our needs are many, but so are the ways you can help.  Please click here to see what we need and how you can help, even if you have no money yourself:  OUR NEEDS
